Examinations Performed by a Gastroenterologist
During a consultation, additional tests may be prescribed. The clinic performs both instrumental and laboratory tests.
Instrumental Tests
-
Abdominal ultrasound
A non-invasive test using ultrasound waves to examine internal organs (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen). The procedure is painless, takes about 10–20 minutes, and requires fasting (no food or drink) for 6–8 hours beforehand. -
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD / gastroscopy)
An examination in which a flexible endoscope is inserted through the mouth to inspect the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. The procedure takes about 10–15 minutes and is performed on an empty stomach, often with local throat anesthesia. -
Rectoscopy
An examination of the rectum using a rectoscope inserted through the anus. It lasts about 15–30 minutes and requires bowel preparation with a micro-enema beforehand. -
Colonoscopy
A procedure for examining the large intestine using a flexible endoscope inserted through the anus. It takes about 15–30 minutes and may be performed under intravenous sedation.
Laboratory Tests
-
Complete blood count (CBC)
Measures levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin, and other indicators. Helps detect anemia, inflammation, and infections. -
Urinalysis
Evaluates urine color, concentration, physical properties, and chemical composition. Helps detect infections and internal organ disorders. -
Biochemical blood tests
(AST, ALT, ALP, GGT, bilirubin, HBsAg, anti-HCV)
Assess liver and bile function and help detect hepatitis B and C infections or antibodies. -
Stool (coprological) examination
A microscopic analysis that evaluates digestion efficiency and detects blood, parasites, or abnormal findings.
To undergo these tests, it is necessary to register for a gastroenterologist consultation.
