About the Examination

X-ray is one of the most commonly used diagnostic methods. It is a fast, effective, and completely painless examination that helps diagnose various health conditions or injuries. It allows evaluation of the condition of the lungs, heart and blood vessels, bones and joints, and helps monitor healing after bone fractures or dislocations.

During the examination, the body is exposed to a very small dose of ionizing radiation; however, modern technologies allow this exposure to be minimized while still obtaining high-quality results.

Who is this examination for?

An X-ray examination is suitable for people of all ages who need assessment of:

• bone structures (head, spine, shoulder girdle, upper and lower limbs, chest, pelvic bones),
• respiratory system (lungs, bronchi, larynx),
• cardiovascular system (heart, blood vessels),
• cystic or other inflammatory breast changes,
• oncological diseases or osteoporosis.

This examination is not recommended for pregnant women.

How to prepare for an X-ray examination

No special preparation is required. Before the examination, you may be asked to remove certain clothing items and take off jewelry that could interfere with the procedure.

Doctor’s referral

A referral from a general practitioner or a specialist is required to undergo the examination.
With a referral, the examination at “Kardiolita Clinics” in Kaunas is free of charge (except when performed as part of an employee’s preventive health check).

What happens during the examination?

The radiologist will ask you to stand against the X-ray unit and explain the position you need to maintain without moving for 2–4 seconds. The radiologist will observe the examined organs on a special monitor and take X-ray images.

The entire examination takes approximately 5–10 minutes.

After the examination

The radiologist will assess the images obtained during the examination and provide the results.
