Keratoma removal (1 pcs., large from 1 cm)
Keratoma Removal
Keratoma removal is performed using a laser. The water present in skin cells absorbs the light emitted by the laser beam, converting light energy into heat energy and causing a controlled thermal effect on the water within the cells. Skin lesions are painlessly removed using pulses of light. In most cases, a single procedure is sufficient; however, in rare cases, the procedure may need to be repeated. Some discomfort or pain may be experienced during the procedure.
Depending on its intensity, local anesthesia may be used in certain cases. Local anesthesia is applied by spreading or administering a topical anesthetic to the skin.
Alternative Diagnostic and Treatment Methods
- Cryotherapy – the skin lesion is removed by destroying it with cold using liquid nitrogen. The procedure is more painful, causes blister formation, and may affect the surrounding healthy skin more than laser treatment.
- Electrosurgery – the skin lesion is destroyed using an electric current. Wound healing generally takes longer than after a laser procedure.
- Curettage – the skin lesion is scraped away using a medical instrument called a curette. The wound may bleed more heavily than after a laser procedure.
After the Procedure
After the procedure, the wound may be painful, ooze fluid during healing, and develop a scab. Physical activity is not restricted, and no medical leave certificate is required. According to the physician’s recommendations, the wound may be treated with medication and covered with a dressing, which should be changed every 1–3 days until the wound has healed. For at least 24 hours after the procedure, exposure to heat, hot water, saunas, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation should be avoided. The wound may be exposed to water 2–3 days after the procedure. After bathing, any wet dressing should be replaced. Formed scabs should not be touched or picked. For several days following the procedure, avoid using topical medications such as tretinoin, retinol, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid.
To ensure an effective treatment outcome, a dermatologist consultation is required (the consultation fee is added to the procedure price).
