Acne (pimples) treatment of back area
Acne Treatment
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, characterized by breakouts on the face, back, neck, and decollete area. In some cases, acne can also affect the groin and underarm regions. The primary cause of acne is increased activity of the skin's sebaceous glands. This may result from hormonal changes, an unhealthy diet, unsuitable cosmetic products, or improper skin hygiene. Although acne most commonly occurs during adolescence, adults can also suffer from this condition, and if left untreated, it may progress.
During the Procedure
The treatment area is cleansed, and any cosmetics or makeup are removed. A water-based gel is then applied to the skin. The laser handpiece is placed against the skin and emits laser light, which may cause a mild tingling sensation. At the same time, the outer layer of the skin is cooled to minimize discomfort. The laser handpiece is moved across the skin surface in three different directions over the same treatment areas. The heat generated by the laser beam disrupts the membrane proteins of acne-causing bacteria and impairs blood circulation within the inflammatory lesions. This helps reduce inflammatory processes in the skin, decreases redness and swelling, and reduces the number of pustules. The activity of the sebaceous glands is also diminished. A course of 5–6 treatments is generally recommended at intervals of 7–10 days. The entire treatment course should be completed within 50–60 days. More specific recommendations will be provided by a specialist after evaluating the individual condition of the patient’s skin.
The procedure may be slightly uncomfortable, therefore, local anesthesia may be applied if necessary. When local anesthesia is used, a topical anesthetic is applied or administered to the skin.
After the Procedure
The treated area must not be subjected to trauma for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Any crusts that form should not be touched, picked, scratched, or otherwise disturbed. Other physical irritants, such as saunas, ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and similar factors, should also be avoided. Following the procedure, sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher must be applied to the laser-treated area for at least 4 weeks. Hair removal by waxing, sugaring, electric epilator, or tweezers should be avoided for 4 weeks prior to the laser procedure.
