Diagnostic and Surgical Services
The Meliva diagnostic and surgical clinics in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, and Šiauliai have contracts with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for the provision of services covered by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF) to all residents of Lithuania.
Based on these contracts, for patients covered by mandatory health insurance, the cost of personal healthcare services provided by Meliva diagnostic and surgical clinics (formerly Kardiolita Clinics) is covered by the CHIF budget, in accordance with the service nomenclature and base prices approved by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) operating in the region where the respective Meliva clinic is located (Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, or Šiauliai).

Dental Services
Dental Sealants
Healthy permanent molars in children may be sealed with dental sealants from the eruption of the first permanent molar until the age of 14. Sealants are materials used for dental caries prevention, mechanically sealing grooves and pits to prevent decay-causing bacteria from accumulating.
Sealants are applied to the grooves of the first, second, and third permanent molars, and in cases of high caries risk, also to premolar grooves and deep pits of upper lateral incisors.
This procedure is provided by healthcare institutions that have contracts with the Territorial Health Insurance Fund (THIF) for dental services or for sealing children’s molars with sealant materials. The procedure is performed by dentists with assistants or dental hygienists.
Dental sealant application is completely painless. The tooth surface is cleaned, treated with a special preparation, covered with sealant, and hardened using a special light. After the first application, a follow-up visit is required after 3 months, and later during routine preventive check-ups. If a sealant is lost, the procedure is repeated.
When preparing a child for kindergarten or school and during annual preventive health check-ups, it is essential to visit both a family doctor and a dentist. The dentist evaluates the child’s dental condition, treats teeth if needed, and applies sealants to healthy permanent molars.
Dental Prosthetics
Dental prosthetics is a service aimed at restoring missing teeth and regaining proper chewing function. Currently, there is an established procedure for providing and compensating dental prosthetic services from the CHIF budget.
Eligibility for CHIF-compensated dental prosthetics
Persons covered by mandatory health insurance who belong to the following groups:
- Individuals who have reached retirement age;
- Children under 18 years of age;
- Individuals recognized as disabled or partially disabled in accordance with Lithuanian law;
- Individuals who have undergone treatment for oral, facial, or jaw oncological diseases.
To receive dental prosthetic services, patients must contact the healthcare institution where they are registered (which must have a contract with the THIF), or another licensed dental care institution that has a contract with the THIF.
During the consultation, the dentist (or, in complex cases, a medical board) evaluates eligibility, the condition of the teeth, and oral health status. If criteria are met, data are entered electronically into the National eHealth system (ESPBI), relevant electronic forms are completed, and the patient is registered in the Dental Prosthetics Subsystem of the Waiting List Information System (EVIS DP) on the same day.
All data are handled electronically; the patient does not need to submit additional applications. The patient is immediately informed whether they are eligible for compensated services, and the institution must issue a confirming information notice.
Dental prosthetic services must be provided within 3 years from registration in EVIS DP. Repeated compensation is available no earlier than 3 years after the previous compensation date, except in specific cases defined by law (e.g., children or patients with oncological conditions).
If actual prosthetic costs exceed the compensated amount, the patient must pay the remaining balance.
Primary Dental Care
Primary dental care includes non-specialized outpatient dental services, such as:
- Treatment of dental caries and pulpitis;
- Certain types of periodontitis treatment;
- Removal of dental calculus;
- Tooth and root extractions;
- Detection of precancerous conditions;
- Preventive dental care for children (sealants);
- Detection and prevention of bite anomalies;
- Temporary splinting for dental trauma, and more.
Primary dental services funded by CHIF are provided by institutions contracted with the THIF. Patients should usually contact the dentist at the primary healthcare institution where they are registered.
The NHIF covers the dentist’s professional work, while patients must pay for materials, medications, fillings, disposable supplies, based on actual usage and cost.
Exceptions
Children, full-time students (up to age 24), and socially supported individuals are exempt from paying for materials, provided appropriate documentation is submitted.
If a patient chooses more expensive materials or additional services not necessary for diagnosis or treatment, the additional cost must be covered by the patient.
