How to prepare for surgery?
Surgery Preparation Guidelines
Surgery is a medical intervention involving your body.
How to prepare for surgery:
- Do not eat for 6 hours before surgery. The evening before, have a light, easily digestible meal; do not eat at all in the morning of the surgery.
- Do not drink any fluids before surgery.
- If a specific type of surgery is planned, you will be personally informed about any additional requirements to ensure the procedure goes smoothly.
- If you are taking blood-thinning medications, your family doctor must replace them with suitable alternatives prior to surgery. Please consult your family doctor regarding this matter.
- Make sure to get adequate rest before surgery, as the procedure places stress on the body.
- Before surgery, do not consume alcohol, psychotropic substances, or caffeine; avoid green tea, coffee, chocolate, and do not smoke.
- It is important to complete blood tests no more than 10 days before the scheduled surgery date.
- A referral from your family doctor for surgical treatment is required if the costs of your surgery and hospital stay are covered by the Territorial Health Insurance Fund (THIF). You will be informed about this personally.
- Prepare the contact details of a person whom we can reach in case of unforeseen circumstances.
- Arrive at the scheduled time assigned specifically to you.
- Stay calm and allow us to take care of your health.
