Dental Fillings
Dental filling is one of the most common dental procedures that almost everyone needs at some point. Fillings are used to restore tooth tissues damaged by caries or to replace old, worn-out fillings.
Molars are most frequently filled, as they bear the greatest chewing load and are more exposed to food, increasing the risk of decay. However, dentists also often perform aesthetic fillings on front teeth, especially to restore chipped teeth caused by trauma, chewing hard food, or bruxism (teeth grinding).
Tooth Decay Can Develop in Both Healthy and Filled Teeth
At first, patients may notice discoloration of a tooth. Later, pain may occur when eating or drinking cold beverages. At the first sign of these symptoms, it is recommended to consult a dentist as soon as possible.
Our goal is early diagnosis and treatment of dental damage, preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
Dental Filling Procedure
Filling is considered a conservative preventive treatment aimed at protecting the tooth nerve from further damage and preventing complications.
- Usually performed in a single visit
- Most commonly uses light-cured composite materials
- Glass ionomer cements are used less frequently
Fillings are suitable for small to medium cavities. Larger defects are typically treated with prosthetic restorations such as inlays, onlays, or crowns.
When Can You Eat After a Filling?
You can eat immediately after a light-cured filling. However, if anesthesia was used, it is recommended to wait until numbness wears off to avoid injury to soft tissues.
Your dentist will advise you individually about post-treatment instructions.
How Long Can a Temporary Filling Stay?
Temporary fillings are used when treatment requires multiple visits (e.g., root canal therapy or prosthetics). They should be replaced with a permanent filling as soon as possible to ensure proper treatment results.
What to Do If a Tooth Hurts After Filling?
- Use toothpaste for sensitive teeth
- Avoid foods that trigger pain
- Avoid hard foods
- Take pain relief medication if necessary
If pain does not decrease or persists for several weeks, consult your dentist.
Procedure Steps
- The area is numbed with local anesthesia
- The tooth is prepared, preserving as much healthy structure as possible
- The filling is placed, restoring natural tooth anatomy
Composite materials vary in color, transparency, and elasticity, so the final result depends greatly on the dentist’s skill.
Composite Build-Up Based on Wax-Up (Bite Raising)
This method is used for patients with:
- bruxism
- reduced tooth height
Impressions are taken, and a dental technician creates a wax model of the future tooth anatomy, which guides the restoration process.
Cost of Dental Filling
The cost depends on:
- depth of decay
- material used
- complexity of the case
- additional procedures (anesthesia, X-rays, etc.)
Only a dentist can determine the exact cost after examination.

Aesthetic Dental Filling
Aesthetic filling is a modern dental field requiring high precision and professionalism. Its goal is to restore teeth so they look natural and function properly.
Composite material is used to rebuild dentin and enamel while correcting tooth shape and color.
It is available in various shades, making it easy to match natural teeth.
When Is Aesthetic Filling Recommended?
- Unsatisfactory tooth shape or spacing
- Discoloration
- Worn, chipped, or decayed teeth
- Old fillings that look unattractive
Advantages
- Natural appearance
- Maintained shine with regular polishing
- Preservation of natural tooth structure
Important to Know
- Regular care and polishing are required
- Plaque may accumulate more easily
- Over time, restorations may wear or crack and require replacement
Procedure Process
During the initial consultation:
- dentist evaluates your condition and expectations
- creates a treatment plan
- discusses timelines and costs
The treatment begins by selecting a matching color. Every groove and contour of the tooth is carefully recreated using modern materials to ensure both aesthetics and function.
