Ca Calcium
Calcium (Ca) is one of the most important and most abundant minerals in the human body. About 99% of calcium is found in bones, while the remaining 1% circulates in the blood. Calcium plays a key role in blood clotting, is essential for the normal functioning of the nervous system, heart, and muscles, and is also important for iron utilization in blood formation. Calcium testing is performed using a venous blood sample and/or urine sample.
A calcium test is recommended when the following symptoms or conditions occur:
- memory impairment
- nervousness
- paralysis
- muscle twitching (tics)
- impaired tooth development
- weak, brittle nails
- reduced appetite
- nosebleeds
- recurrent bone fractures
- presence or history of kidney stones
