Breast Diseases Center (Mammology)

The Breast Diseases Center is a facility where breast conditions are diagnosed and treated.

At the center, care is provided by specialist physicians (mammologists) and oncologic surgeons. Mammologists specialize in diagnosing and treating:

• Breast pain (mastalgia, mastodynia)
• Fibrocystic breast changes
• Nipple disorders and discharge (duct ectasia/periductal mastitis, intraductal papilloma)
• Infections and inflammations (mastitis, abscess)
• Mondor’s disease
• Breast conditions during adolescence
• Benign and malignant breast tumors in both women and men (cysts, fibroadenomas, sclerosing adenosis, lipomas)
• Gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts)

Breast MRI and other diagnostic procedures are also performed.

Doctors prescribe and evaluate:

• Mammography (X-ray examination of the breasts)
• Breast ultrasound
• Breast MRI
• Biopsy (puncture) of breast lesions
• Laboratory tests for breast cancer markers

Preventive Health Check-Ups

Preventive screening helps maintain good health and detect serious diseases early.

• Young women are recommended to visit a mammologist and undergo a breast ultrasound every 3 years
• Women aged 45 and older are advised to have a mammogram every 2 years

These screenings help detect tumors at early stages, before they can be felt. Women with a family history of breast cancer (mother, sister, grandmother) should pay special attention to their health.

When Women Should Consult a Mammologist

• Frequent breast pain related to the menstrual cycle
• Occasional breast pain not related to menstruation (usually localized in one area)
• Breast inflammation during breastfeeding
• Palpable painful or painless lumps in the breast
• Changes in breast shape or symmetry
• Changes in skin color or texture
• Nipple retraction or other nipple changes
• Spontaneous nipple discharge (noticed on clothing or bedding)
• Bloody discharge from the nipple
• Palpable hardness behind the nipple
• Breast injuries
• Breast conditions in adolescents
• Any other concerning changes in the breasts or nipples
• Enlarged lymph nodes in the armpit

When Men Should Consult a Mammologist

• Enlarged breasts
• Lumps or hard areas in the breast
• Nipple changes (retraction, deviation)
• Nipple discharge (sometimes bloody)
• Enlarged lymph nodes in the armpit
• Changes in breast skin color or texture
